Our surgical wards consist of a number of exciting and dynamic acute departments dealing with a range of specialist surgical patients. They provide excellent learning environments where you’ll have the opportunity to gain new clinical skills and work as part of close knit multidisciplinary teams.

Applicants do not necessarily need previous experience but do need to show an interest in these areas of practice and a commitment to the service in delivering quality compassionate and individual care to patients.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a well-established urology department with modern and state-of-the-art facilities.

We deal with uro-oncology, laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, LASER endoscopic (stone) surgery, incontinence treatments and general urology.

In 2012, we purchased a £2 million Da Vinci surgical robot to offer patients state-of-the-art minimally invasive 3D prostate and kidney surgery. We are now one of the largest centres for robotic urology in the North of England.

  • We are the Western-West Yorkshire Uro-Oncology Centre, and receive referrals from a population of just under one million people.
  • We have nurse-led clinics for prostate assessment and oncology follow-up.
  • We were the first hospital in the country to establish a GP With special interests-led flexible cystoscopy service, urology triage and haematuria clinics.

The majority of our minor or major ENT/ head and neck surgery takes place on ward 18, a 22 bedded unit.

For patients requiring major surgery the ward also incorporates a 4 bedded progressive care unit  (PCU) which accommodates patient’s in their early post-operative period following major surgery. Ward 18 also provides an acute and out of hours service for patients requiring urgent maxillo-facial or ophthalmology treatments.

Vascular Surgery services are based at Bradford Royal Infirmary. The service includes facilities for outpatient clinics and treatments, day-case treatments, and emergency and planned hospital admissions.

The team work closely with colleagues in interventional radiology and other specialties to provide a comprehensive range of interventions to treat vascular conditions.

ODPs Theatre

Our operating theatres are lead by teams of clinical specialists who deliver a high standard of care to patients undergoing a broad range of surgical and anaesthetic procedures.

It’s a multidisciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Surgeons, Scrub, Anaesthetics and Recovery practitioners.

Theatres are based across four sites, and we have 20 Operating theatres in total.

We are a very friendly team, and offer lots of learning opportunities. A structured induction package is available to all new starters – preceptorship tailored to professional requirements is offered to all newly qualified nurses and ODPs.

Successful applicants will join our multidisciplinary teams and participate in the delivery of safe and innovative, patient centred perioperative care.
